During the Taliban ,Art and Culture of Afghanistan suffered tremendous, among which were 210 paintings of the National Gallery of Afghanistan . The Taliban tore paintings depicting human face calling it an act of idolatry.
Of the 210 painting, 60 were damaged beyond repair. The remaining 150 paintings were on the verge of destruction due to lack of funding for preservation initiative as well as low capacity of staff in painting restoration/conservation. Through this project, the condition of 150 paintings was assessed, staff capacity was appraised, 31 paintings were restored and basic trainings were given to staff of the Gallery.
